Dear Beth,
No one understands me! Or maybe I just feel that way. A chess tournament, and Daddy will be in Columbus with Xander for two days and we can fold out the sofa bed! You see, me and Talia have a game called Grape Trampling. And we walk or run and there are mean directors. Moe, Miss Wormwood, Mr. Dad, Mrs. Mom, and Miss Rosalyn. Well, Mrs. Mom isn't so bad, but the rest are bad, and the good ones are Mr. Hobbes, Miss Susie, Mr. Bun, and Mr. Calvin. Well, that's just Calvin and Hobbes, our favorite comic strip. But it stopped. We saw a dance show Saturday. I must stop too!

Dear Beth,
Today is the only day for a long time the day it is sunny! I love it! Almost nothing to write, but a few nights ago, we all went to a children's opera, and the plot was: Well, there was this brave princess and this shy prince, and he was going to be king, but the Pletilpletonary or T.P. for short– was king and didn't want to leave, so he did lots of evil plans, and said he would marry the princess. But she said she would marry the man who beat her in a duel, but he did with a magic sword, and the fairy godmother changed him into a woman, and so the prince was king, but I secretly admire the princess, and how can I tell? I want to be like her when I grow up– feisty, smart, brave, and strong, yet gentle and kind, unselfish, and lovely. By the way, we might go to chess club. Goodbye, Elizabeth.
Love, Maria
P.S. There were mostly students at the children's opera for children! That's mean!

Dear Elizabeth,
That stupid singing was not all that bad. Moving swiftly onward, it is very warm today. Here is something funny: One of my violin fingerings has a 5! Mommy, according to Ralph Moody: A good meat cow is square! So here is my drawing of a square cow. Must go to dance, so

Dear Ana,
Here is a daffodil... More later.
Pressed and dried daffodil taped to the page.

Presumably later:
I forgot to mention, war is done. Peace! This is wonderful! But I think Ana is too overused. I think Beth or Elizabeth would be better, so Elizabeth, we have to go to a stupid singing, so I must stop.
Love, Maria
